Mixed Marriage: Many Questions, One Answer

>> Monday, March 23, 2009

Ever wonder what life is like for a Thai-Canadian couple raising kids in Thailand?

Well, some people do, and by golly there's a few who don't hesitate to ask all about it.

Some of the wackiest questions I've been asked about my husband and children over the years are:

1. Did you pick her up at the market?
(from a man who saw me holding my baby girl in a hotel elevator)

2. Are they adopted?

3. Is it true that Thai men are really good in bed?

4. Is it true that Thai men are really bad in bed?

5. Is it true that Thai men have small penises?

6. You're married to a Thai man? How do you deal with THAT?

7. Since your children don't look like you, do you ever feel like you're not as close to them?

My answers to the above questions have always been something along the lines of...

[rhymes with 'that the duck']

Good lord, no kidding WTF is your correct answer! (ESPECIALLY with #1, my jaw just dropped!)
I haven't had any questions asked about my (Thai) husband and our son so far, and I guess I can count myself lucky.

It's amazing how some forget that there is a living, breathing, real person on the receiving end.

Reading posts on ThaiVisa always boggles the mind...

My kids are half indian, half american and here is the questions I just loved!! Are you the nanny? I answered the same way you did.

About Phuket

It's pronounced "pooh-ket", not "fuckit".
Its population is roughly 30% Chinese-Thai, 30% Malay Muslim Thai, 30% Buddhist Thai and an assortment of nutjobs and wackos such as myself.
It's a great place to come for holiday, but I'd rather you not because there's enough traffic here already, thank you very much.
It's a long way from Canada.
