Toddler talk

One of the hundred weird, random conversations I had today with my 3-year-old:

He: (holding out his hand) You know the thumb right?

Me: Ya?

He: I think the thumb should be over there. (holding up his pinky)

Me: Ya, why?

He: ......

Me: Why's that sweetie?

He: Should be over there [Incomprehensible, garbled sentences about dinosaurs, fish, Ultraman...or something]. That's right. Ya.

Me: Alrighty.

Do the shuffle.....with words that begin with "sn" or "sm", the "s" gets dropped at the front, but then, interestingly, gets tagged onto the end. For example, "smart" becomes "marts".

More examples:

"Hey, what animal makes the 'sss' sound?"
"Nakes."

"Who's that guy with the carrot nose and a broom in his hand?"
"A nomans."

"Mom, I'm hungry. Make me a nacks."

"Hey there buddy, what'cha digging for there?"
"Nots."

The girl speaks, too...

A week or so ago, my sweet pea one year old said both "papa" and "mom" for the first time, within five minutes of each other, at a rather high decibel level from her carseat in the back. Noted was that she said "papa" first.

She also tries to say "Justin" but usually prefers to capture his attention by slapping him upside the head. It works.

I've nicknamed her "Steamroller".
