A friend of my mother-in-law's is an insurance salesperson. She's sold heaps of insurance to my husband over the years but she's always trying to sell him more. The latest is a savings thingybob for our son, which as far as I can see is a deal where you give them a wad of money and they charge you a ton for keeping it, then when you want it back they won't give it to you, unless they take half of it.
Anyway, she's relentless, and I was mighty irked the other day when she arrived on our doorstep at 9pm with no prior notice, just as we were finishing a quiet dinner with the baby sound asleep upstairs. Like, basically the only time of day in which I have my husband to myself. Like, get a life woman.
Later, after we'd finally hustled her out the door, I launched into my obligatory rant about the whole thing. Just as I was gaining momentum and really making some good points about the horridness of this woman, yada yada yada, my husband said, in his quiet way, "She's gone but she's still stuck in your mind. Why don't you enjoy this moment?"
And that's my husband's (very wise) way of saying, "Shut the f*** up!"
Equanimity. Ya, that's the ticket.

Too cute. Wise hubby you've got.
And hey, how are the spiders these days?
Hi Krista...the spiders seem to have moved onto greener pastures, or perhaps more less treacherous toilets to inhabit. Probably won't see too many now till the rainy season starts again in May. Yay!
that was pretty profound. i'll try to remember that the next time i'm inclined to spend dinner with my husband reciting to him the annoyances and frustrations of my typical day in traffic-congested bangkok. it's like, why re-live it all over again? and why put him through it as well? hm.
He should have taught the anger management workshop I went to last week... the speaker was so bad I came out more in a fury than when I went in!
I was just going to write you to check out "bangkok expat mama"'s site. Funny how that works out eh. I was thinking of the white girl in Thailand quota we so often talked about..
anyhow, Go O! It reminds me of the story of those two monks crossing the river... one brought a woman over the other was shocked. Two days later the shocked one says.. why did you hold onto a woman, to which the reply was.. I let go of her days ago, you are still holding on.
:)
